Women fighting in the UFC have a history of controversial takes. UFC President Dana White once said that women would never compete in the UFC. Champions like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev previously stated that women should not be fighting. Popular fighter Sean O’Malley came forward with his take on the situation.
Sean O’Malley said, “What if there was a ‘WUFC’?What if they had their own program? Would it last? Would they be able to sell pay-per-views, would they be able to sell out arenas? I’m just asking. What if it was the ‘WUFC’? It’s still the UFC, it’s still Dana, it’s still the UFC pushing these fights and promoting them – would it last? WNBA – WUFC, I’d like it. I think it’d be interesting. We’re not talking skill, they’re very, very skilled. I’m talking from a pure entertainment perspective. Like, ‘I can’t f**king wait for this fight.”
O’Malley thinks the women could benefit from having the WUFC like the WNBA remaining separate from the NBA. However, it will still be under the UFC banner. These are O’Malley’s opinions but not the most logical ones. Only Ronda Rousey managed to sell out arenas in the women’s division. Hence, it does not appear likely that WUFC can exist when most fighters who move the needle are men.
The best outcome at the moment remains a combined roster of both men and women. WNBA is not profitable, and a similar result could happen for the WUFC. Also, Dana White will not accept ideas like this when the UFC makes millions of dollars in profits yearly.

Sean O’Malley will fight Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight title

O’Malley has just a single loss in his UFC career. It came against Marlon Vera due to an injury that happened in the fight in 2020. However, he fought his way back to a title shot three years later.
Aljamain Sterling is the greatest bantamweight champion of all time. No one has managed to defend the title three times in a row and O’Malley will have his hands full against the champion. However, it is not likely that O’Malley will get dominated in the fight. He can piece up Sterling with his excellent striking skills if he can maintain the distance.
The UFC considers O’Malley as a huge star, and rumors swirled around that they want a marketable champion like O’Malley instead of a polarising one like Sterling. Only time will tell if O’Malley can capture the title from Sterling.
