“Chito beat your son’s a**” Sean O’Malley recounts his father being SQUARED UP by Luke Rockhold
Sean O'Malley (L), Luke Rockhold (R)
As per fans and the UFC brass, “Suga” Sean O’ Malley is quite possibly the next bantamweight champion. For him, the question of winning a title isn’t about how, but when.
Till now, whoever has come in Sean O’Malley’s path has been disposed of quickly by the American striker. Since 2021, he is 3-0 with one no contest, when he allegedly eye poked Pedro Munhoz. Many fans were quick to jump to attack Munhoz, saying that he chose the easy route out.
The only blemish on O’Malley’s record is his first-round TKO loss to Marlon “Chito” Vera back in 2020. The nature of the knockout was quite dramatic, as it seemed like Vera’s kick to O’Malley’s leg impacted some nerve, which made the American limp and fall, unable to use the leg. As a result, Vera finished the fight with ground and pound, being called to a halt by the referee.
Despite losing only once, Sean O’Malley remains ardent in maintaining his mentality of being ‘’undefeated’’, owing to the bizarre way in which he lost. However, the writing is on his record, and can never be erased.
It seems as if other fighters do not want Sean O’Malley to forget his loss either. On his podcast, The TimboSugarShow. “Suga” recalls how ex-UFC middleweight Luke Rockhold fronted up to his father when they ran into each other in Whitefish, Montana.
“They were in Whitefish. Luke (Rockhold) was drunk and he kept telling my dad “Chito beat your son’s a**’. My dad said Luke was super (buzzed) but he kept saying ‘Chito beat your son’s a**’. Why would he be like that?” explained O’Malley.
To this, his co-host replied by saying, “Obviously, he (Rockhold) is a bad m**********r, you can see why he’s so egostistical, he’s just a guy you probably wouldn’t be friends with.”
This not the first time the two have shared barbs. During the UFC 278 presser, when Paulo Costa was booked to fight Rockhold, the American remained outspoken and unabashed in front of the media. O’Malley believed it to be a front, and called Luke Rockhold “uptight”.

Sean O’ Malley faces Petr Yan at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi
Sean O’Malley is ascending the bantamweight rankings, trying to etch his name permanently in the UFC record books, sitting at #12 right now.
Come the 22nd of October, he has a shot at making a massive dent in the rankings. He faces Muay Thai and expert pugilist Petr Yan in Abu Dhabi, as part of the main card for UFC 280.
This is an extremely high-stakes match-up for Sean O’Malley, as a win over the ever-so-stunning striker Petr Yan will guarantee him top 5 status in the bantamweight rankings, and a win or two from there would guarantee him a shot at the title.
The matchup is also important for the UFC to prove itself as promoting the right talent, as the 27-year-old has been given the best treatment by the promotion till now.
In Petr Yan, Sean O’Malley’s hype will be given a run for its money. If he loses, talks of becoming one of the bantamweight greats will probably die down for a while. But, what is sure is the fact that he won’t be seen as an enigma anymore – given he fails his chance against top bantamweight talent.
