Sean O'Malley and Petr Yan
The bantamweight matchup between Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan might have come off as a little overwhelming to all fans and the rising bantamweight himself. However, Suga Sean and his coach are well-prepared to take care of business against the former champ.
UFC 280 has a lot of exciting fights on its card. With two title fights in the main and co-main event, the high chances are they shadow the rest of the card. But make no mistake, on the main card, Petr Yan vs Sean O’Malley is a fight that you don’t want to miss out on.
Yan is undoubtedly the toughest challenge O’Malley has in his hands. The rising bantamweight has a huge step up in completion but his coach, Tim Welch is confident that his fighter has the skills to go toe-to-toe with the former bantamweight champion.
“Anyone who spars Sean, any high-level guy, a guy who comes in from the UFC to spar Sean…they’re like, ‘Holy f**k!'” said coach Welch talking about O’Malley’s underrated skills as a fighter. It is no breaking news that the Russian bantamweight is known to take his time in the octagon before he goes all in on his opponent.

Does Sean O’Malley get a title shot after winning against Petr Yan?
Just to give more perspective on how big of a jump in competition, Petr Yan is for O’Malley, a quick look at the rankings of the bantamweight division would tell you everything you needed to know. The Russian fighter is currently the #1 ranked fighter in the talented 135-pound division.
O’Malley, on the other hand very recently entered the bantamweight rankings and is now sitting in the #12 spot.
