Sean Strickland and Colby Covington are on the conservative side regarding politics in the USA. However, the two do not see eye to eye. The two have traded barbs whenever an opportunity presents itself. Strickland criticized Covington’s remarks about Leon Edwards‘ dead father at UFC seasonal press conference. Covington also had words to say about Strickland’s apparent misogynistic remarks.
Sean Strickland recently sat with Mega Olivi for the ESPN MMA for an interview preluding UFC 297. In the interview, Olivi asked about Strickland’s opinion about Colby Covington. This is what he said.
He's just fraudulent, you know. But again, a lot of, like a lot of, I think, to be a UFC fighter, it is a sense of entertainment, WWE; But you want to base your character and authenticity, and then you have somebody like Colby who is like a fictional persona that he's created. And when he's not trying to fall on Trump's dick, you know, I don't know...It's like the most cringeworthy, bro.Sean Strickland via ESPN MMA
Strickland was full of laughter when he saw Donald Trump leave the arena during Covington’s post-fight speech. He described it in the interview with Olivi and even had an ‘ugly girlfriend’ reference. Strickland had a troubled childhood, which was one reason why he took Edwards’ side against Covington. Like Strickland, Edwards also had a troubled childhood.
Strickland is the betting favorite against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297. Preluding the fight, Strickland trained with undefeated Bellator middleweight champion Johnny Eblen. Eblen’s upcoming opponent is Impa Kasanganay in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in the Bellator vs. PFL fight card.
Sean Strickland vowed to stab Dricus Du Plessis before UFC 297
Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis had an altercation in the audience of UFC 296. It followed the verbal altercation the duo had before at the 2024 seasonal press conference. Strickland alleged that Du Plessis and his coach are gay, and Du Plessis brought up Strickland’s childhood trauma. Strickland, on his podcast The Man Dance with fellow UFC middleweight Chris Curtis, had some words to say about Du Plessis.
During the podcast, Strickland revealed to Curtis that he messaged Du Plessis and told him never to talk about his childhood trauma ever again. If he did so, Strickland threatened to stab him. Strickland also revealed that Du Plessis was cordial about it.
Strickland is coming off an upset victory over Israel Adesanya at UFC 293. On the other hand, Du Plessis’s last fight was at UFC 293, where he defeated former champion Robert Whittaker via TKO. Fans highly anticipate the fight due to the backstory. NBA superstar Kristaps Porzingis and NFL superstar Maxx Crosby recently revealed their anticipation for the fight.
