Sean Strickland took on unranked fighter Abus Magomedov at UFC on ESPN 48. Strickland was the main event attraction of five UFC Fight Night cards in his career, and the fifth came against Abus. The American fighter recently landed in some controversy for his comments on women, but it did not stop him from winning at UFC on ESPN 48.

The American middleweight contender took a significant risk when he accepted a fight against an unranked opponent. Abus poked Strickland in the eye in the first minute of the fight. However, the fight resumed after Sean Strickland told the referee his intention to continue. Abus remained the more active fighter in the first round and did enough to win the round. However, the American fighter fought back in the second round.

His cornermen told him about a counterstrike that could change the game’s momentum. Strickland employed the counter striking to hurt Magomedov and piled more pressure on him with continuous output. In the end, Magomedov succumbed under pressure, and Strickland walked away with a second-round TKO. Strickland remains undefeated in 2023 and called for a title fight. He also reiterated his love for the United States and considered himself a patriot.

It remains to be seen if the UFC will give him a title fight considering Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis will fight shortly in a title eliminator bout. Nevertheless, Strickland could get a higher-ranked opponent for his next fight, assessing the risk he took against Abus at UFC on ESPN 48. Only time will tell when the American fighter returns to the octagon.
