Sean Strickland takes on Jared Cannonier this weekend, in what will be the last card of the year. As with any Sean Strickland fight week, his media scrum was filled with whizzes.

From comparing the life of a fighter with sex work to going off at random media members for how they look, “Tarzan’s” pre-fight scrum was a welcome change from the usual drub scenery projected in interviews. While UFC fighters usually pick up media training in the business, it is always refreshing to see a change.

Another topic he aimed his sights on was the man in focus since the beginning of last week – Paddy Pimblett. He said, “I make the press conferences. I mean, look at Paddy. The f**ing Conor McGregor wannabe, like, you don’t want to see that f**ing guy… with his little bowl cut. You can’t relate to that guy, you know. That English f***ing prick.

Indeed, there were sharp words from Sean Strickland who used Pimblett to draw attention to his ability to deliver at press conferences. And, that certainly is the case – witnessed in the last press conference that he was part of, at UFC 276.

The winner of Sean Strickland vs Jared Cannonier could find themselves embroiled in a title fight next year

Despite the two of them (Strickland and Cannonier) coming off respective losses against UFC 281 title protagonists Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya, a title shot could be looming in the distance. That is, Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira are bound to rematch for the Brazilian’s title in the coming year; hence, the winner of the bout could potentially face off against either American in action this weekend.

However, fight fans must remember that there is one Australian man, forever in the mix on the middleweight title landscape. His name is Robert Whittaker, and some would consider him the next best middleweight, after Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya.

Hence, a match-up between the Australian fighter (who takes on Paulo Costa in February) and Strickland or Cannonier, could serve as a potential title eliminator. The UFC could choose to skip that, and directly let Whittaker take on Pereira (if he retains the title), because of his ability to pose threats on the ground for the Brazilian juggernaut.
