Sean Strickland will take an unconventional approach to his upcoming fight with Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title. As the countdown to UFC 293 begins, both fighters are gearing up to cobert their long-drawn verbal spat into reality.

Strickland recently fought Alex Pereira and could not overcome his striking abilities. As such, one would expect Strickland to focus on his grappling to take on Israel Adesanya, another skilled striker. However, it looks like Strickland has other plans. In his own words, “I’ve been wrestling a lot in camp. But you know, sometimes you get up there, you’re looking at the man. And I think to myself, ‘I wanna stand and trade punches with this guy’…”.

It might seem logical for Strickland to lean heavily on his wrestling skills. However, despite putting in extensive mat time, Strickland has a reason why he might not opt for wrestling or jiu-jitsu when facing ‘The Last Stylebender.’ “So I probably should wrestle, but that’s probably not gonna happen… It’s bulls*it, doesn’t work. Doesn’t work, you guys, jiu-jitsu don’t work,” Strickland said in his recent interview with Nina-Marie Daniele.

Despite holding a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Strickland doesn’t believe in its practicality in MMA. He casually remarked that he earned a BJJ black belt a while ago. And now it is somewhere in his trunk. He also revealed that he lost his gi and no longer wears it. “Why do you need a black belt when you got a gun?” Strickland retorted.

As the fight date draws near, Strickland has only mocked Israel Adesanya’s championship demeanor even more. He had also taken jabs at Adesanya’s occasional nail-painting habit. In response, Adesanya did not hold back. He openly criticized Strickland and labeled him an “idiot.” He also expressed his determination to sport painted nails while delivering the knockout blow at UFC 293.

Adesanya took back his middleweight title from Alex Pereira at UFC 287. He has become a two-time UFC Middleweight Champion and will defend his title for the first time in his second interim at UFC 293. Adesanya has not taken the risk of underestimating Strickland. He acknowledged Strickland’s unconventional approach. However, Adesanya remains steadfast in his commitment to securing his title and delivering a determining victory over Strickland.

Fans cannot wait for the extraordinary showdown at UFC 293. The fight is scheduled at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, later this September. Adesanya and Strickland both have gone back and forth online for a while now. It is now time to turn the trash-talking into reality.
