Phil Baroni accused of murdering girlfriend
Since the beginning of the year, scandals and controversies have engulfed the whole MMA community. Ex-UFC fighter Phil Baroni has been detained for reportedly killing his fiancée in Mexico, adding to the list of ongoing scandals.
According to reports, the former mixed martial artist admitted to hurling his lover into the shower, where she hit her skull and passed away shortly after. She allegedly admitted to cheating on him, according to Baroni. The victim’s naked, lifeless body was discovered by authorities after Baroni reportedly contacted them on his own. She was covered in a sheet and had bruises and cuts on her face. At the time of the incident, he was apparently high on both booze and drugs.
In Baroni’s account, she was still alive when he brought his lover onto the bed following the incident. She requested a beer and a cigarette but she had no vital signs when he returned from the store after leaving to acquire them.
Phil Baroni made his professional UFC debut at UFC 30. In two stints with the organization, he fought ten times, going 3-7 overall. Baroni finished his career with an overall record of 16-19 and retired from the sport in 2019.

When Phil Baroni continued to support his teammate even after being found guilty of murder
Jonathan “War Machine” Koppenhaver, a former mixed martial artist, was found guilty in connection to the attack on Christy Mack, a pornographic film actress, and his partner in August 2014. He was given a life sentence with a 36-year parole eligibility period.
But Baroni continued to publicly support his ex-teammate despite the horrific nature of his crime. It is said that he paid ‘War Machine’ a visit while the latter was incarcerated. Baroni got himself fired from Bellator for publicly backing the convict. Baroni also made a point of standing up for “War Machine” in court. He even posted on Instagram in support of his teammate, “Loyalty before royality #gzuphoesdown”.
Jonathan made his professional debut at Total Combat 2 on 29th February 2004. Throughout his career, he fought in 19 matches winning 14 of them. He made his UFC debut in 2007 at The Ultimate Fighter 6 and won his debut match against Jared Rollins. Jonathan earned himself a knockout of the night award for knocking his opponent out cold in the third round.
