“That was said by Joe Rogan” – Mike Goldberg hilariously throws Rogan under the bus after “racist” comment on Jon Jones
Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg
Joe Rogan has some of the funniest moments in the UFC as a commentator and his times with Mike Goldberg in the commentary box surely bought the best out of the comedian/podcast host.
The duo broadcasted and called fights for the longest time in the UFC. Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg were pioneers of the sport and helped shape the sport of mixed martial arts to where it is right now by calling fights and making them as entertaining and informative as possible for the growth of the sport. Mike was a longtime commentator for the UFC and was finally let go after nearly two decades of calling fights for the biggest MMA promotion in the world.
Rogan and Mike’s voice were a staple for fans back then who watched the UFC. Mike is as famous as any other iconic personality in the UFC, including Rogan himself. The duo has had several amazing moments but one particular moment that stands out is the time when Goldberg hilariously put Rogan under the bus for his comments at the beginning of the Jon Jones vs Andre Gusmao fight which was held at UFC 87.
“Black guy Jones, White guy Gusmao” – Mike Goldberg could not believe what Joe Rogan said
The fight began between Jones and Gusmao. Mike and Joe were in charge of calling the play-by-play for that fight back in 2008. Goldberg kicked off the commentary with his iconic “HERE WE GOO” which believe it or not was as iconic as Bruce Buffer’s “AND IT’S TIME”. The usual routine for commentators is to make the audience aware of the names of the fighters by the color of their trunks while fighting.

“Short black trunks for Jones and White trunks for Gusmao,” said Goldberg while Rogan added a hilarious comment saying, “Or…BLACK guy, Jones, and WHITE guy, Gusmao.” Mike was taking no chances of getting canceled even before cancel culture existed. The former commentator was quick to mention, “And that was said by Joe Rogan.” To date, this is one of the most iconic lines in the history of the promotion.
Mike was let go of the company after WME/IMG took over the promotion. Rogan reacted to the promotion letting go of his long-time partner, and said, “I will stay in contact with Mike until the day I die. Mike is my friend,” in one of his podcast episodes.
