Not many in the UFC have been able to provide the thrill Paulo Costa has been able to through his fights. Since his debut in the UFC, Costa has won six fights in the promotion while losing only two. The Brazilian holds notable wins over the likes of Yoel Romero, Uriah Hall, and Luke Rockhold to name a few.

A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Costa is known for the power in his hands. His punches and kicks are enought to put his opponents to sleep or rather erase their existence in the octagon on that particular night. The same is further justified by his nickname.

UFC middleweight Paulo Costa is often refered to as ‘Borrachinha’ or ‘The Eraser.’ While the former was his original nickname, the Brazilian Costa wanted to be called ‘The Eraser.’

In Portugese, ‘Borrachinha’ stands for little rubber. Costa received this nickname from his older brother who was known as ‘rubber man’ due to his elasticity. However, the former 185-pound fighter felt that the original meaning of the word did not translate well to English, and hence he decided to go with another word that stood for rubber in Portugese.

Ahead of his fight with Johnny Hendricks at UFC 217, Paulo Costa spoke about the same. He said, “The Eraser’ is the best translation; it’s like, ‘I will erase you, Johny Hendricks.” (h/t MMA Junkie)
