Tito Ortiz provides his take on Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler! Tony Ferguson took on the former Bellator MMA’s lightweight champion, Michael Chandler on the main card of UFC 274. Ferguson, who is well known for his legendary 12 fight win streak, lost a stepping and ended up on a 3-fight skid. He promised to make a comeback in this fight, but his opponent was no joke.
Chandler’s UFC debut was a thing to behold, he knocked out Dan Hooker in the very first round of their contest, and it granted him an immediate title shot. After a great start, he got knocked out by Charles Oliveira, and that ruined his title dreams of Chandler. He came back to fight Justin Gaethje for the number one contender spot, but after a fight for the ages, he lost that fight as well.
After a good first round, Tony Ferguson was knocked out cold by Chandler. Nobody believed what they saw, and Chandler lost his mind after this. He landed a backflip, and everyone in the arena just froze. For Chandler, however, it was a great moment, and he made full use of this opportunity to call his shot. He issued a call-out to the sports’ biggest star, Conor McGregor, he said, “Conor McGregor, you gotta come back and fight somebody. I am the most entertaining lightweight on the planet, I want to up the stakes Conor.”
“The guy has a steel rod in his leg and still wants to come back”- Tito Ortiz has nothing but respect for Conor McGregor
Conor took notice of this, and he accepted his call-out, in a deleted Tweet, he wrote, “I’d have a nice knock off this guy, no doubt about it. A firework spectacle. I like the 170 shout also. Tipped him over. I’m definitely game to fight this guy at some stage in my career. I see it happening after tonight. Congrats on a solid win Michael and another barnstormer.“
Fans are getting excited about this fight, but former UFC fighter, Tito Ortiz believes it’s not an ideal matchup for the Irishman. Talking to Helen Yee about it, he said, “It doesn’t make sense for McGregor. Chandler is a wrestler who can strike. That’s not Conor’s strength. Khabib really showed that and what he can do with it. Poirier also showed what he can do with wrestling also and with striking. For Conor to come back after the injury he had, I have nothing but respect for the guy. The guy has a steel rod in his leg and still wants to come back and compete.”
