Tom Aspinall won a spectacular victory over Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. He is now targeting a high-profile challenge. The main event was supposed to feature Jon Jones defending his heavyweight championship against two-time champion Stipe Miocic.  However, this bout was canceled due to Jones’ injury.

Undaunted by the circumstances, Tom Aspinall declared his enthusiasm to face Miocic. In an interview, Aspinall emphasized the importance of facing Miocic in the Octagon, calling it an “epic” chance. He emphasized that it is critical to see such a showdown before Miocic decides to retire. He implied that the former two-time heavyweight champion’s retirement may not be far off. This is what he had to say:

It makes complete sense, I don’t know why anyone would dispute that. He’s free, I’m free, Jones is injured…For Stipe, it’s an absolute win-win. If he gets knocked out he’s getting knocked out against a young guy that’s already a champion. If he wins, imagine the hype between him and Jon then. Win-win.

Tom Aspinall wants Jon Jones to be stripped of the Heavyweight title

Tom Aspinall, the UFC interim heavyweight champion, is generating headlines. This is not just for his dominant victory over Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295, but also for his bold position in the present UFC heavyweight championship situation.

Jon Jones is currently recovering from a ruptured pectoral tendon. Aspinall believes the UFC should not keep the championship dormant and should strip Jones of the belt.

Aspinall shared his thoughts in an interview with Michael Bisping. Aspinall’s viewpoint originates from the regular practice of stripping titles from fighters who are unable to defend them due to injury. He believes the UFC should not suspend the heavyweight class. This is especially true when an interim champion is ready to battle for the indisputable championship.

Aspinall criticized the idea of a “legacy fight” between Jon Jones and Miocic. He highlighted the need to focus on active competitors who can help the division improve. He encouraged the UFC to stop shielding Jones and advised that he fight Miocic immediately rather than wait for Jones to get better.
