“Nobody wanted to fight us,” Tom Aspinall reveals how the Curtis Blaydes fight came up to fruition for UFC London

Tom Aspinall- Curtis Blaydes

UFC heavyweight Tom Aspinall is back to action in his home country of England and seems to be more than ready than he has ever been for any fight in his life. Aspinall is one of the fastest rising prospects on the UFC roster and is a unique heavyweight altogether, for someone who brings hands as fast as a lighter weight fighter in boxing and shows efficiency with his Jiu-Jitsu that is so far unmatched in the current roster heavyweight division.

Aspinall is so far 12-2 in his overall MMA career with a 100% finish rate. Aspinall is currently ranked #6 in the official UFC heavyweight rankings. He is the son of Andy Aspinall who was one of the first BJJ black belts out of England and runs an academy in the same martial art. Aspinall’s wins include the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Sergey Spivak, Alexander Volkov, Alan Baudot and many more.

In an interview with UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping, Aspinall talks about his ambitions to be the best ever in the sport, his workout regime, his preferences for pull-ups for effective grappling and much more. Aspinall, later on, stumbled upon his matchup against UFC heavyweight Curtis Blaydes and how the fight came to a deal as they face each other off inside the Octagon next weekend at another UFC London event.

“The UFC matchmakers told me ‘look, Tom, there’s nobody who wants to fight you and there’s nobody who wants to fight Curtis, do you want to fight Curtis Blaydes?’… And I said I will fight him if nobody wants to fight him, I will be that guy who fights him. He’s really good everywhere. He’s by far the best opponent I have ever thought and to be honest with you, he’s brought out a completely different side of me… I have pushed myself way way further than I have ever pushed myself, mentally, emotionally and physically…” says Aspinall.
