“Get offended when you want the best” – Tom Aspinall takes sly jibe at Jon Jones’ rant as flyweight phenom faces same problem
Away from a Jon Jones fight, interim champ Tom Aspinall has an advice for flyweight aspirant Muhammad Mokaev on being disregarded by the best.

Interim heavyweight titleholder Tom Aspinall has been on the sidelines ever since his momentous win at UFC 295. After this 69-second highlight win, the Briton has been aiming for an undisputed title fight with Jon Jones. He even went on a Twitter back-and-forth on Jones’ rant about his unproven heavyweight legacy. But time and again, Jones curbed the idea of such a fight happening. Disappointed, the champion now has valuable lessons to impart to peers.
Aspinall (14-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) had stepped in for the interim title fight in Jones’ absence. Aspinall went on to defeat Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. Since then, Aspinall has tried to get a fight with Jones, but to no avail. Concurrently, he now finds Muhammad Mokaev in a similar situation. Here’s what Mokaev wrote, taking to X:
Tweeted that I would like to have a grappling match against Demetrious Johnson , the legend himself, P4P number 1 holding the sport for the long time I just wanna compete with the best in the sport, what’s wrong with that?Muhammad Mokaev on X
25-4-1 Demetrious Johnson is the fight to make as the current ONE Flyweight champ. He also holds the record for most finishes in UFC flyweight history. Mokaev naturally thus wants a hash-off with Johnson, considerably one of the greatest fighters of the era. Concurrently, knowing the feeling all too well, here’s what Aspinall replied:
People get very offended when you want to fight the best...
The sly jibe comes as a direct inference to Jones scrubbing off the idea of an undisputed title contention fight. Lately, Aspinall divulged that even Stipe Miocic turned down a prospective UFC 300 fight, in light of a legacy bout with Jones. He has lately revealed staying prepared for future prospects; something he would probably advise Mokaev as well.
A thread of Tom Aspinall’s curriculums, away from undisputed title fight
With Tom Aspinall having bagged the interim gold, it is peak time for the Englishman to bank on his champion status for an undisputed title fight. Otherwise, his belt is just a moot promotional symbolism.
Concurrently, he has called on Jon Jones to make such fights. But the latter has dismissively not bent to his callouts and baits on social media. Jones recently issued ‘simple’ parting words to Aspinall, shutting down his aspirations in one swoop.
Hence, Aspinall has been engaging in a plethora of other affairs. He recently went viral for lifting 127lbs dumbbells in each hand, equivalent to that of a flyweight. This was during a sparring session with Strongman Eddie Hall/GLORY Kickboxing heavyweight champion Rico Verhoeven.
Before that he also went viral, driving around Hall’s demilitarized CVR-T Scimitar tank. The stint earned him the quippy gag of driving on his way to UFC headquarters, to demand an undisputed title bout.
Aspinall had previously wished upon a shift to boxing for wanting to remain active. Prior to Riyadh season boxing, fellow Briton lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury had invited Aspinall to spar. Time and again, Aspinall has mentioned being a fan of the sport.
Moreover, he is famed for his incredible swing and almost breaking a Brazilinator punching machine, on the heels of his victory.
The champion must nitpick his feats and adventures when and where he can. Because as of now, the fighter has no slated square-offs for the future.
