Jon Jones is not too keen on Tom Aspinall or his callouts. And fans are correspondingly not too keen on Jones or his ducking maneuvers. The heavyweight champion is on inactive status, having incurred a pectoral tear in training. Aspinall, the interim champion has made many callouts for an undisputed title contention. But time and again, top honcho Dana White had sidelined Aspinall for the ‘legacy’ fight of Jones against Stipe Miocic.

Aspinall, the 14-3 Briton, had stepped in for the interim title fight, in Jones’ absence. He accordingly faced and defeated Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. Ever since, Aspinall has been set on a hash-out with Jones, but to no avail. Jones himself did not reciprocate on good terms as well. Here’s what Aspinall had to say on the matter.

Jon you’re letting your ego run wild here mate. I’m not downplaying you’re résumé, it’s incredible. Far superior to mine. You are known as the best fighter ever, and that’s EXACTLY why I want to beat you. Surely you can understand that?

A fan account, @GamesAndPlays1 had dialogues with Jones over on X, saying Aspinall had done all he could. To this, the heavyweight G.O.A.T dismissed Aspinall’s justifiable frustration, stating it was out of the blue. Having carried the heavyweight division for long, Jones was dismissive of the challenger’s unproven worth.

Concurrently, fans have not taken this all too well. Many have mentioned that Jones wants to face a washed-up challenger (as in Miocic) so he can retire and save face simultaneously.

Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall engage in to-and-fro banter

With Jon Jones absent, Tom Aspinall went on to win the interim heavyweight title at UFC 295. But feeling that his title gold would be moot on the return of Jones into active status, Aspinall had made numerous callouts.

Even veterans like Chael Sonnen and Daniel Cormier have talked about the same. Aspinall had even asserted ‘active’ champion status, trying to bait out Jones for an undisputed title showdown. But Jones had not taken too kindly to that.

The latest jab came via TikTok when Aspinall posted a video parodying waiting decades for the fight with Jones. This finally got the fighter’s attention. Check out what the reigning heavyweight champion fired back (on a now-deleted post on Instagram), and the conversation that followed:

Jones also jibed at the fighter’s supposed unproved worth in a separate tweet altogether. Many MMA enthusiasts, and conversely even supporters of Jones himself have cried foul on this discourse. With no undisputed title fight on the near horizon, Aspinall remains on the sidelines for many future fight cards. The fighter did, however, express his interest in the possible victor of UFC 299 very recently.
