Tony Ferguson opens up on his brutal knockout against Michael Chandler! UFC 274 went down last weekend and it was one entertaining fight event. The event took place at the Foot Print Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, and was fully packed.
The PPV was headlined by two title bouts in the lightweight and strawweight division and yet a fight on the undercard had all the eyes on it. Tony Ferguson made his return to the octagon at UFC 274 against Michael Chandler and it was one of the most anticipated fights of the night.
Tony was coming off a loss to Beneil Dariush in 2021 and was set to take on the electric Michael Chandler. Despite the return of Ferguson, it was not a pleasant evening for the fans of El Cucuy. He was brutally knocked out with a high kick to the face which put him out cold. It’s been nearly a week and Ferguson has finally opened up about his KO loss.
“I’m still kind of flabbergasted why I was backing up”- Tony Ferguson reflects upon the choices he made in his fight against Michael Chandler
In an interview with MMA Junkie, talked about the whole experience in great detail. He revealed what went through his mind, and what his future looks like. He said, “I got knocked the f*ck out. I don’t want that sh*t to ever happen again. It could’ve, one, been prevented, and two, I should’ve had him finished in the first round. As soon as I knocked him down.”
He added, “But God works in mysterious ways, and he’s not ready yet, son. He had me sit down and take a nap and rest for a second, because I work my a** off this camp with this humility that people want to present to me. I’m a new man. I don’t care. I’ve been to hell and back and I’m here now. Reborn again. And I’m here to take over.”
“There’s only so much humility a man can go through. I’ve been through it all, right? I’ve had my belt stripped, I don’t have to go back and refurbish all that stuff. I had a good fight week. I started loosening up in there more toward the fight, which was fun. It was really good to be back in there, I’ll be real. Except for the second round. The second round, I’m still kind of flabbergasted why I was backing up,” Tony concluded.
