In a recent interview with ESPN, Tony Ferguson delved into how the showdown with Paddy Pimblett came to be. He also shared his initial thoughts on the matter. Fans are undoubtedly excited to see Ferguson hopefully make a successful comeback. He is currently on a six-fight losing streak, with his UFC career hanging in the balance.

Ferguson will lock horns with Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett at UFC 296. In the interview, Tony Ferguson dispelled any claims of him retiring from the UFC. He said, “I texted Hunter, I had a good talk with him… Hunter, Dana, Sean…they said they had something good for me.” Ferguson revealed that he had sent them a video of his pad work and urged that he was in pretty good condition.

He added, “When they said that, I sent them a clip of me hitting pads. It wasn’t the same old me. I’m moving pretty good”. For a while, there was no news for Ferguson. Until one day, he received the message that he would lock horns with the upcoming talent from Ireland, Paddy Pimblett.

When the fight was officially announced, it sparked discussions regarding the intentions of the matchmakers in the UFC. However, Ferguson did not pay heed to any rumors and revealed he was solely focused on preparing for the competition.

‘El Cucuy’ has reconnected with his former team and is well on his way to hopefully breaking his losing streak. Fans are eagerly anticipating the exciting matchup and hoping things change for the UFC veteran at UFC 296.

During the ESPN interview, Tony Ferguson revealed that he was planning to take on his former intended rivals, whom he had been eyeing for a while. He boldly stated that he would pursue Conor McGregor if he was willing to sign the contract and successfully navigate through his current situation with USADA. He said, “Going after McNuggets’…we’ll go after Conor if he’ll sign on the dotted line and get through USADA.”

Tony Ferguson had come close to a showdown with Conor McGregor back in 2017. This was right after he won the interim lightweight title at UFC 216. However, this highly anticipated matchup failed to materialize. Meanwhile, Ferguson also revealed his intentions for a potential retirement from fighting. He revealed that he believed he had a lot left to accomplish. Moreover, he stated that he was nowhere near finished and intended to fight on.
