Twist to the Tale! Charles Oliveira reveals he will go down to 145 and fight Alexander Volkanovski for featherweight championship

Charles Oliveira wants to challenge the pound-for-pound champion Alexander Volkanovski in his own division! The Brazilian proposes to drop down to featherweight and fight the featherweight champion.

Both, Charles Oliveira, and Alexander Volkanovski want the double champ status. Lightweight contender, “Do Bronx” is willing to save the featherweight champion from the burden to gain weight to fight for the lightweight title fight. Oliveira is ready to drop weight and fight Volkanovski in the featherweight division.

Oliveira is fired up to fight Islam Makhachev at UFC 280 for the lightweight title. While the Brazilian is ready to give the featherweight champ a chance to challenge for the lightweight title, he expects “The Great” to return the favor by welcoming him to the 145-pound division.

“First of all, we’re gonna focus on what happens [UFC 280]. My timing is to actually fight in Brazil afterward. If we’re gonna make this happen with Volkanovski, we’re gonna fight in two weight divisions. I can fight in February but for his belt. I have a great team to get down to 145,” said Oliveira at the media scrum ahead of UFC 280.

Alexander Volkanovski prefers to fight Charles Oliveira over Islam Makhachev

Volkanovski has been eyeing the lightweight belt for quite some time now. The fairly huge featherweight is ready to step up a weight class after cleaning out the entire 145 division. The P4P champ is ready to take on the winner of Charles Oliveira vs Islam Makhachev which will take place at UFC 280.

When talking about who he would like to face for the lightweight belt, Volkanovski told Ariel Helwani in an episode of MMA Hour, “I’d say Charles would be the better opponent. People say stylistically but obviously there’s a lot of hype around Charles.”

Oliveira is currently one of the biggest PPV draws in the UFC roster and has become a huge superstar around the world. Volkanovski recognizes the Brazilian’s star power and acknowledges fighting “Do Bronx” would be a “bigger fight” than Islam Makhachev.
