Andree Lee corner makes racist remarks at UFC Vegas 54
Andree Lee fought Viviane Araujo in a three round women’s flyweight bout this past weekend at UFC Vegas 54. The fight was featured in the preliminary card of the event and Andree Lee lost the fight via unanimous decision.
However, the fight attracted controversy that is not something fans want in the MMA community. In between the rounds, Lee’s coach Tony Kelly who is also UFC fighter was caught using bigoted comments on Araujo.
Kelly was clearly caught in a video clip in which he was trying to hype Lee by disrespecting Araujo and her corner. He said:
“That’s what they’re gonna do. They’re dirty f* Brazilians. They’re going to fing cheat like that. Guess what we came f somebody up.”
MMA pundits reacts to the recent Andree Lee controversy
After the incident took place, it didn’t go unnoticed by the MMA community and it faced a lot of criticism. Many fighters and combat sports personalities took to Twitter to share their opinions in this regard.
UFC welterweight fighter Gilbert Burns didn’t like anything that took place and called out Andree Lee for their mistakes. He wrote :
” I don’t like to talk bad abt corners, not an easy job, but Lee corner need a lot study to do #UFCVegas54.”
UFC fighter Adrian Yanez who is scheduled to fight Tony Kelly on June 18, 2022 at UFC on ESPN 37 took this opportunity to roast his opponent.
” ???Not a good look,” wrote Yanez.
He also claimed that he previously wanted to get a finish over Kelly but now it would be more deserving.
” Already wanted a finish, but now it’ll be more satisfying.”
Belal Muhammad shared his opinions on the matter through Twitter and claimed that the comments were racist.
“Ok that corner work was terrible Lee keeps dating racists,” wrote Muhammad.
UFC veteran fighter, Cris Cyborg also took to Twitter to speak on what happened
“That’s what they’re going to do”…Congratulations @ViviAraujoMMA obrigado por calar essa boca do treinador gringo @canalCombate.”
Combat sports writer and interviewer Shakiel Mahjouri shared the clip on his Twitter account and was shocked by the incident. He wrote :
” Andrea Lee’s coach: “That’s what they do. They’re dirty f–king Brazilians. They’re going to cheat like that.” What on earth did I just hear? #UFCVegas54.”
