Tom Aspinall faces Sergei Pavlovich for the UFC interim heavyweight title, on Nov. 11, with a sudden amendment in the fight card. Ahead of this, peer Tyson Fury has forwarded a motivational message to him.
In an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, the topic changed to Aspinall, who also hails from England. Helwani asked Fury if he had any message to be played for him later on. On the subject, Fury said:
You know, this is a massive opportunity...I always said since Tom started in the UFC, I've always said he's capable of winning the heavyweight championship of the world. This is his opportunity to go there, seize it with both hands, and immortality awaits.
Aspinall made his debut in the promotion in July 2020. With a 6-1 record, he is part of a new roster of heavyweights who showcase genuine athleticism and definitive striking. Fury thus feels it his time to outshine his peers in the division.
His bout with Pavlovich was scheduled on very short notice. It was announced recently by CEO Dana White. White informed that Jon Jones had to pull out of his bout with Stipe Miocic, due to a torn pectoral muscle.
Fury has been positively influenced by his British peer within the UFC. He even called upon him for his matchup against Ngannou. Meanwhile, Fury himself is set for two matches this year. After facing Ngannou in a boxing match, he goes on to face Olexandr Ulsyk.
Tom Aspinall calls Sergei Pavlovich the most dangerous in UFC; but remains confident of victory
In a recent video, Tom Aspinall talked about his upcoming interim heavyweight title fight with Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. This match was scheduled after Jon Jones had to pull out due to a suddenly incurred injury.
As such, Aspinall now faces Pavlovich for an interim heavyweight title fight. The Brit understands the peril of the short notice bout and has no qualms about admitting so. Yet, he remains optimistically cautious and ambitious towards the goal.
The task ahead would however not prove easy for the English fighter. Pavlovich is fresh off with a six-fight win streak. Even Aspinall himself has commended the opponent to be the most dangerous guy within the promotion.
The one thing that Aspinall mentioned inspired him to take on the fight even more, was the challenge. Nobody else would dare to take up a bout hitting close to heavyweight class, in this short time.
This is why he likes the challenge and feels it warrants him some credit. Both fighters are well-rounded grapplers. But Pavlovich has immense power and knockout ability, which had credited few of his wins.
