Tyson Pedro opens the main card of UFC 293 against Anton Turkalj. Two consecutive victories followed Pedro’s comeback from injury. However, he lost his most recent bout to Modestas Bukauskas. It was a fight in which Pedro came in as a big betting favorite.
The loss to Bukauskas earned a lot of hate for Pedro on social media. Apparently, a lot of bettors lost money on Pedro. Pedro explained about what happened after his loss at UFC 284. He said, “Obviously, I got a bit of hate after the last one. A lot of gambling ad*icts lost money on me.” The light heavyweight further clarified that he screenshotted the negative comments to fuel his motivation for UFC 293.
Tyson Pedro also had a fun time at the media day talking about Anton Turkalj whose nickname happens to be “The Pleasure Man”. He also promised to win a performance bonus in front of the home crowd. Before his loss at UFC 284, Pedro had a two-fight finish streak. Pedro was 3 and 3 when he took a hiatus to recover from injury. Since returning from injury, he has trained at City Kickboxing. Israel Adesanya has helped Pedro through his tough time after UFC 284.
Pedro’s opponent, Anton Turkalj entered the UFC through Dana White’s Contender Series, but he has not won in the UFC in two attempts. The Swedish fighter was undefeated leading into his UFC debut at UFC 279, which Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson headlined.
Tyson Pedro is planning for an exciting performance in front of the home crowd at UFC 293

UFC 293 would be Tyson Pedro’s second consecutive fight on home soil and his first in Sydney. He has previously fought in Adelaide, Perth, and Melbourne. Pedro’s media day interview showed that he aimed for a finish. Pedro has won 5 and lost four times in the UFC, with all the wins coming via finish in the first round.
Interestingly, all his fights prior to his UFC debut also ended in a first-round finish in his favor. All his defeats, except for the Mauricio Rua fight, ended in a decision. Pedro injured his knee during the fight with Rua. The fight card is built around the local fighters, and Pedro is expected to run through Anton Turkalj.
UFC 293 also has Justin Tafa facing off against Austen Lane. They originally fought in the undercard of the ABC card headlined by Josh Emmet and Ilia Topuria, but an inadvertent eye poke by Lane rendered Tafa unable to continue. The fight lasted 29 seconds. Like Pedro, Tafa will aim for a first-round finish.
