After spending a year away from the Octagon, Jorge Masvidal will return to the Octagon to face Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. Kevin Holland is fighting in the same fight card. However, Masvidal and Holland may have gotten into a scuffle at a Hotel before fighting different opponents.

In the video that has been released, Holland gestures with his hands at someone and says something. Hotel security surrounds him and de-escalates the situation before something chaotic happens. Masvidal is barely seen on the video, but witnesses have confirmed that Masvidal got into a scuffle with Holland. UFC and Dana White have yet to put out a statement.

After losing three consecutive fights, Jorge Masvidal needs a victory over Gilbert Burns to compete in a Welterweight title fight. He has a history with the current champion Leon Edwards after they scuffled at a London Fight Night card. Edwards has been looking for revenge ever since the three-piece and soda incident in March 2019.

Kevin Holland is on a two-fight losing streak with back-to-back losses against Khamzat Chimaev and Stephen Thompson. He needs a victory over Santiago Ponzinibbio to remain among the top Welterweight contenders in the division. It is unknown at this point if the UFC will use this scuffle to book a future fight featuring Masvidal and Holland.

Considering the history between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal, a win over Burns can help Masvidal to fight Edwards for the title. He even claimed in an interview that he is a bigger draw in England than the champion. However, the recent scuffle before UFC 287 between Kevin Holland and Masvidal has a backstory.

In the episode of UFC Embedded, Holland and Gilbert Burns were signing posters, and he commented on both Burns and Masvidal. Holland said, “This guy sucker punches people and this guy shows up to fight.” Burns then asked him who was going to win, and Holland replied, “This guy’s a douchebag, this guy’s a good guy. So, there you go.”

Whatever comments Holland made about Masvidal may have gotten back to Masvidal’s camp. The scuffle could be Masvidal’s way of responding to Holland’s comments. However, fight fans could buy the idea of the two fan-favourite fighters colliding inside the Octagon.
