Chuck Liddell is a former UFC light heavyweight champion and UFC Hall of Famer. He recently criticized Colby Covington‘s infamous personal trash talk that went viral ahead of his UFC 296 bout.
Chuck Liddell specifically condemned Covington’s comments about Leon Edwards’ late father, saying that it crosses lines in combat sports. Liddell said that he hates where trash talk is going in MMA, where fighters are crossing the line with personal insults. He also said that some of the stuff they do nowadays is not okay.
Like talking about someone’s father, dad, or kids. Start talking about somebody’s kids. Like hey, I like Colby, but you run your mouth about my kids, you better have your hands up when I step up to you. Anywhere.Chuck Liddell via Bradley Martin’s Raw Talk

At the UFC 296 press conference in Las Vegas, Colby Covington said to Leon Edwards that he would bring Edwards to the seventh layer of hell. He also said that they would say ‘what’s up’ to Edwards’ father while they were there. Leon Edwards’ father was shot and killed in a nightclub in Croydon, London in October 2004. Edwards was 13 years old at the time. After hearing that comment Edwards threw a bottle at Covington, and security intervened to separate the two fighters.
Chuck Liddell is credited with helping MMA become more mainstream in American sports and entertainment. Liddell was a professional competitor from 1998 to 2018. He retired in late 2010 with a 21-8 record, but returned for one more match in 2018, losing to Tito Ortiz. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2009.
Colby Covington on a potential rematch with Jorge Masvidal
Colby Covington does not think he will ever rematch Jorge Masvidal. The two former best friends faced off at UFC 272 in March 2022, with Covington winning a unanimous decision. However, the rivalry continued when Masvidal attacked Covington outside a Miami steakhouse later that month.

Covington has said that the UFC likes to make high-level fights and would not give him an easy matchup again. He and Masvidal were friends and training partners for eight years, and Covington has a history with Masvidal. Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington were best friends and roommates who trained together at American Top Team (ATT) in Florida. However, the two eventually grew apart and became bitter enemies.
Masvidal has won 35 matches in his UFC career, 16 of which came by knockouts. He recently tweeted that he is “unretired”. The former UFC star and two-time welterweight title challenger announced his retirement at UFC 287 just eight months back.
