Jose Aldo
Jose Aldo is one of those rare fighters that captures the attention and the adoration of the fans at the same time.
A testament to his greatness is when he ran out into the Rio crowd after defeating Chad Mendes and was hoisted into the air by the fans who have nothing but loving respect for him and his career.
Although he lost to Merab Dvalishvili in the last fight of his illustrious career, the fight was not a fair assessment of the fighter’s career. The Georgian fighter held Aldo to the fence for the best part of 15 minutes, shackling his flowing striking. Interestingly, Jose Aldo had performed pretty well in the bantamweight division – having beaten the likes of Marlon Vera and Rob Font.
Although he has retired, Aldo still has time and mileage in his career. Speaking about this, he said, “I’m trying to see the best path I’ll take right now. I won’t fight MMA, that’s for sure. I thank everybody for calling me from other promotions. But I haven’t left the UFC, I remain under contract with them.”
Speaking about participating in other combat sports, he said, “Boxing is a possibility. It was always a dream I had in my life. I never hid that from anyone. It was always a dream. But let’s see.”
Evidently, Jose Aldo envisions a trip to the boxing ring. And he would fit right in – apart from his leg kicks, his swift striking has always been his most lethal weapon.
Jose Aldo could have competed in Brazil a final time before hanging his gloves

Although fight fans will never get to see the great “King of Rio” enthrall them in the octagon again, they might get to catch a few more glimpses of him showcasing his arsenal in boxing.
However, that is not to say that fans didn’t miss out on a special event – that is, if Aldo had stuck around for a couple more months, he could have featured on UFC 283 in January, which will take place in Brazil. Before the news of his retirement broke, fans had already begun to speculate who he could face next.
The answer was hypothesized as arguably the man who made bantamweights fashionable – Dominick Cruz. Cruz lost to Marlon Vera via headkick KO two months back. Possibly on his way out of the sport as well, the two would’ve paired up to make a hell of a showing.

That was not to be, as Aldo announced his retirement on the 19th of September, and nullified any such talks that would’ve surely excited any MMA fan.
We can’t wait to see what Jose Aldo’s next move is lined up to be – whatever be the case, rest assured, people will be tuned in to follow whatever he does next!
