“I will never accept his word again” – UFC President Dana White once went on a rant against Nick Diaz

Dana White on Nick Diaz

Nick Diaz is a name all mixed martial arts fans are familiar with. Over the course of his career, Diaz has been associated with some of the most memorable fights in MMA history. Known to express his unique style and gangster persona, Diaz also found himself in trouble with the UFC a couple of times.

One such instance occurred before UFC 137. Diaz, who was on a 10-fight win streak in his MMA career, made a second return to the UFC. Upon his return to the iconic promotion, the Stockton native was blessed with a title shot against then welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. While the fans were excited for the fight, it had to eventually be scrapped as Diaz failed to obey the required media appearances. This behaviour of Nick Diaz did not sit well with Dana White.

The UFC President said, “This kid is not going to show up in Vegas, didn’t show up in Toronto, what else is he not going to show up for, is he not going to show up for the fight? I’m not going to risk that… If Nick Diaz wanted to get a hold of me, he should have got a hold of me in the last couple days… I will never accept his word again.”

Among the many fighters who have graced the octagon, only a few have been able to display the savagery Nick Diaz has. While the former WEC 170-pound champion was very active in the sport, a ban in 2015 saw Diaz stay away from the sport for a long time. However, that changed when he finally returned at UFC 266.

In what was a highly anticipated contest, Diaz faced Robbie Lawler in a rematch at UFC 266. Despite it being a non-title bout on the main card, this fight was scheduled to be a five round affair. After a back-and-forth between the duo for two rounds, Diaz was knocked down in round three. While the Stockton native had an opportunity to get back up, he stayed down which resulted in a TKO loss.
