Leon Edwards has positioned himself as one of the top contenders in the UFC. He recently made a surprise entrance at a Premier League game in England. Here is what happened:
UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards received a hero’s welcome at halftime during Aston Villa’s home win against Burnley. The Birmingham native was brought onto the field to show off his belt and received a large applause. Edwards is the only active English UFC champion and trains at Team Renegade MMA gym in Birmingham.

Edwards paraded his belt on the pitch following his victory over Colby Covington. The event took place at Villa Park, and Edwards was presented during the half-time break, garnering cheers and support from the crowd. However, this recognition reflected Edwards’ local and sporting prominence. The UFC champion enjoyed a warm reception from fans at the football stadium. Meanwhile, the Aston Villa F.C. game, where this celebration occurred, ended with a 3-2 victory over Burnley, securing three points for the host team
Leon Edwards is a Jamaican-British mixed martial artist and the current UFC Welterweight Champion. He has a 12-fight unbeaten streak, with 11 wins and one no-contest. His professional record is 22-3-0 (1 NC). Edwards started his professional career in 2011 and was previously associated with BAMMA, where he held the BAMMA Welterweight title. He made his UFC debut in 2014 against Claudio Silva, losing by split decision.
Fans react to Leon Edwards at the Aston Villa F.C. game
UFC champion Leon Edwards impressed the internet with the UFC 296 win against Colby Covington. Now netizens reacted to his sudden appearance at the stadium for the Aston Villa vs. Burnley game. Here are some of the reactions from X:

Reportedly Belal Muhammad is the obvious next opponent for Edwards. This is because he is the highest-ranked contender in the division after Usman. Edwards will put his unbeaten streak to the test against the likes of Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Belal Muhammad, and maybe even a fourth fight against former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
However, Leon Edwards has said that he is ready to fight Belal Muhammad, but he does not think Muhammad should be next for a title shot. Edwards has said that there are other options and that Muhammad is the least intimidating person in the organization.
