Tai Tuivasa is a veteran of the heavyweight division in the UFC. He amassed a decent record in the promotion with 8 wins and 3 losses. However, recently he went through a rough patch, skidding into a four-fight losing streak. His most recent defeat came against Marcin Tybura at UFC Vegas 88.
The Australian came into the UFC after dominating the regional circuit. Tai Tuivasa’s record stood at 7-0 when he signed with the UFC. With his amusing character and erratic antics like doing a “shoey” after every win, he soon became a fan favorite. As such, Tuivasa’s losses were heartbreaking to the fight fans.
Although Tai Tuivasa entered the UFC undefeated and earned the fans’ support, he faced struggles in his early career. He went on a three-fight losing streak before bouncing back from those losses immediately after being on a 3 fight winning streak in the UFC. Now, he faces a similar situation as he has lost four in a row. Read along to know all about Tai Tuivasa’s losing streak and MMA record.
Tai Tuivasa’s four-fight losing streak
Tai Tuivasa’s recent loss to Marcin Tybura extended his losing streak to four. This left the fan favorite in a tough spot of getting cut from the UFC. It all began with his defeat to Ciryl Gane in 2022. ‘Bam Bam’ went toe-to-toe with the Frenchman and had success early. He even rocked Gane and put him on the back foot for a second. However, Gane recovered and knocked out Tuivasa in the third round.
Following Tai Tuivasa’s defeat to Gane, he faced dangerous contenders in Sergei Pavlovich and Alexander Volkov. Both the fighters dominated the Australian and won the fight via knockout and submission respectively. Pavlovich knocked out Tuivasa in the very first minute of the fight and Volkov used his BJJ skills to choke him out.
‘Bam Bam’ returned to the octagon against Tybura and suffered another submission defeat. While he had success early with his striking and leg kicks, Tybura took Tuivasa down and submitted him with an RNC in the first round. This loss left Tuivasa dejected because of his losing streak.
Tai Tuivasa’s losses and MMA record
Not a long time ago was Tai Tuivasa in the conversation of surging heavyweight prospects. Being just over 30 years of age, the Australian secured impressive wins in the UFC and rose in the rankings. Initially, he won his first three UFC fights against Rashad Coulter, Cyril Asker, and Andrei Arlovski. However, he faced his first defeat against former champion Junior Dos Santos and subsequently lost his following two fights.
This put Tai Tuivasa in a three-fight losing streak. Bouncing back from it, the Australian secured knockout after knockout in his next five fights. This headed him toward the top-five ranking spot. However, he faced defeat against Ciryl Gane and everything came sliding. Now, with a four-fight losing streak, Tuivasa’s impressive MMA record slid to 15-7 and his UFC record came to a mediocre 8-7.
Nonetheless, Tai Tuivasa’s defeats earlier have made him bounce back stronger. As such, one could believe ‘Bam Bam’ would make the necessary adjustments and come back. Also, he has only lost to stiffer competition. Currently, he is ranked #9 and expectedly would fall further down the rankings owing to his loss to Marcin Tybura.
