“I messed up” – UFC Vegas 61 star Mackenzie Dern posts emotional message after heart wrenching loss

Mackenzie Dern met with a devastating loss yesterday at UFC Vegas 61. Yan Xiaonan got the better of Dern which left the promise in a heartbreak.

Leading up to UFC Vegas 61, Mackenzie Dern had a lot of hype behind her. The former No. 1 IBJFF competitor met with a brutal loss. Dern headlined the Fight Night event held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The strawweight was matched against Yan Xiaonan for a five-round bout.

Dern went toe-to-toe with Yan for five rounds and lost the fight via a close decision. Dern was devastated by her loss and let out her first reaction on social media to let the fans know her feelings after the fight. “Hey, guys. So, I am gonna say this in both English and Portuguese,” said Dern in her social media video.

“I just want to thank you to everyone who cheer for me, you know? I messed up and…Yan did so good, she’s tough, she’s really tough, you guys. But yeah, thank you,” Dern said in her post-fight video. “I’m learning on the spot. I’m going to be a champion. I’m gonna be a champion one day I just gotta learn.”

No media and fans were allowed in the UFC Apex for UFC Vegas 61. Founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, and his wife was the only audience member for the Dern vs Yan fight card. However, ESPN MMA crew’s Megan Olivi was present at the Apex and gave us a post-fight interview with Dern.

“She hits really hard. So the first couple of punches, my eyes kinda went pfff so I was like, ‘Okay, we got a dog fight,'” said Dern talking to Olivi on the post-fight show. Dern was also surprised she couldn’t submit Yan and commended her defense.

“I’m not surprised at her defense. I don’t feel her defense was like the best defense but she’s tough, you know, hanging in there,” added Mackenzie about her opponent. Dern is now 1-2 in her last three fights and has a record of 12-2 in her professional career. What do you think is next for the strawweight?
