Umar Nurmagomedov is undefeated and he is one of the top contenders in the UFC. He is the cousin of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Nurmagomedov recently said that he can beat everybody on the bantamweight roster. Here is what happened:
Umar Nurmagomedov recently interviewed with ESPN. There he declared that he could take on anybody in his division.
In my division, I didn't see anyone who I can't beat, who is dominant. I didn't see nobody, I think I can maul all of them. I really believe this.Umar Nurmagomedov via ESPN
Both Umar and Khabib are from Dagestan, Russia. Umar is also the older brother of Bellator champion Usman Nurmagomedov. He has trained under Khabib’s late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who was considered one of the best coaches in Russia. Umar’s nickname is “Young Eagle”, which is a play on his cousin Khabib’s fight name, “The Eagle”.
Nurmagomedov is currently undefeated with a professional record of 17 wins and 0 losses. He made his professional debut in 2016 and has since fought in various promotions, including One Championship and the UFC. Nurmagomedov made his UFC debut in January 2021 against Sergey Morozov. He won that fight in the second round and has since won four more fights in the UFC. His most recent win was against Bekzat Almakhan at UFC Fight Night 238.
Umar Nurmagomedov is ready to take on Cory Sandhagen
This is not the first time Umar Nurmagomedov and Cory Sandhagen have been scheduled to fight in the UFC. The two were going to fight in a bantamweight bout back in August last year. However, Nurmagomedov had to withdraw because of a shoulder injury. Sandhagen is one of the very few men to actively seek a fight against ‘The Young Eagle,’ such is his fearsome reputation.
Nurmagomedov’s win against Almakhan by unanimous decision at UFC Vegas 87 was not easy. He had been sidelined for most of 2023 because of injury and was making his comeback with this fight.
Nurmagomedov currently ranks #10 in the UFC bantamweight rankings. He is considered to be one of the top prospects in the division and will likely challenge for the title in the near future.
