“Fans will love to see “- Valentina Shevchenko opens up about the prospects of a fight against Miesha Tate

Valentina Shevchenko and Miesha Tate

Valentina Shevchenko is open to fight Miesha Tate at the end of the year pay-per-view event. Shevchenko recently at UFC 275 made history by becoming the female champion with the most number of title defences. She defeated challenger Taila Santos via a split decision.

But the fight wasn’t a walk in a park for the veteran fighter. Santos was well prepared and brought the fight to Shevchenko. Although it wasn’t enough to win the title. However, many fight fans and athletes complained that the results were unfair which created a lot of controversy.

During the fight, It clearly looked that Santos controlled the defending champion from the start to the finish. She took her down multiple times and made sure to take her back and try to submit her with different positions. But at the end, the third judge gave a 49-46 scorecard for Shevchenko which was not appreciated by the fans.

After defending her title, Shevchenko appeared at the UFC 275 post fight press conference where she answered some of the media questions.

While talking about Miesha Tate, Shevchenko clearly showed her intentions to fight the ‘Cupcake’. According to Shevchenko the fight can take place at the end of the year, given Tate wins her next fight with Lauren Murphy.

Miesha Tate wins the fight, I think this is what fans will love to see. End of the year, pay-per-view, main event,” said Shevchenko.

It was a little weird for the champion to call out Tate but the reason might be that Shevchenko wants to add big names to her resume. Tate being a former champ,it is a good choice. But it’s a little hard to make that fight looking at the current circumstances.

Tate has won only once in the last five years and after her comeback momentum was disturbed by a loss against Ketlen Vieira at UFC Vegas 43. Although it is an interesting fight, it will be hard to organise a main event bout with this. On the other hand, fight fans are already inclined towards the title rematch between Shevchenko and Santos. Let’s see what UFC has planned next for the #1 pound-for-pound female fighter of the promotion.
