Alex Pereira is set to fight at UFC 300 in April. He will defend his light heavyweight title for the first time against former champion, Jamahal Hill. Recently, ‘Poatan’ found himself on the canvas after a sparring session with rapper Lil Tjay. The Brazilian is known for his knockout power. Surprisingly, he seemed to have met his match in the 140-pound hip-hop artist.
Footage of the incident quickly went viral. The 22-year-old rapper landed a solid right hand on Pereira, as shown in the footage. This was supposed to be a friendly sparring session. The impact was immediate. The UFC champion crumpled to the mat. Before coming to, he looked completely knocked out. He looked visibly confused as to what happened when he woke up. His teammates assisted him as well.
It must be noted that the video may probably be just a skit. This might very well be one of those instances where Alex Pereira is showing his humorous side. The way he fell looked slow and showcased this was just a skit between the rapper and the fighter.
Lil Tjay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, rose to prominence in 2017 with his breakthrough song “Brothers.” In June 2020, an armed robbery in Edgewater, New Jersey, left him with seven gunshot wounds, dramatically altering his music career. Merritt underwent surgery and a long recovery process. He eventually released the single “Beat the Odds” to detail his near-fatal experience.
