Watch: Coach Khabib Nurmagomedov giving Belal Muhammad a game plan in the middle of his fight against Sean Brady at UFC 280
Khabib Nurmagomedov- Belal Muhammad
Belal Muhammad showed his class at UFC 280 when the fighter beat opponent Sean Brady via TKO. In preparation for the fight, Muhammad trained rigorously under Khabib Nurmagomedov and his Dagestani team for weeks. During the fight, Nurmagomedov was in Muhammad’s corner as his head coach and gave him some tips in between the rounds.
Some clips showed the ‘Eagle’ trying his best to make Muhammad relax and focus on his opponent. Nurmagomedov can be heard mentioning Muhammad engaging his strikes even more and looking for openings to finish.
He said: “He have jet lag. Brother, listen to me. Stay busy with your right and be careful with his right hand. Right hand is coming, left then the right is there. This is first round, after second round he gonna be crazy. He gonna be very tired, stay busy.”
Muhammad who has always been criticized by fight fans for not finishing the bouts and winning via decisions stunned the world with the TKO victory. After the fight, Muhammad all the credit to Nurmagomedov for being the coach and helping the fighter to win the fight.
Belal Muhammad compares Khabib Nurmagomedov’s mindset with Kobe Bryant
After the spectacular win at UFC 280, Belal Muhammad did a recent interview with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi. During the interview, Muhammad explained Nurmagomedov’s approach to training and coaching MMA during their camp.
He said: “We’re maybe the same age, but I looked up to him. So the fact that he’s sitting there teaching me, coaching me…this guy doesn’t understand tired. We’re going from sparring to grappling, and then he tells me to get in the cage…all of the sudden at the end of it they tell me we have three minutes of planks…bro, I usually overwork…and that’s what I was telling myself I needed to do when I was there.”
Muhammad then mentioned Nurmagomedov’s work ethic was similar to Kobe Bryant’s and continued, “One of the most special things to see is what he demands out of you. He demands greatness from you. Kobe Bryant would go to the gym at 4 a.m. when other guys were tired…Khabib is the same way. He doesn’t have to be there, he has all the accolades in the world…he’s giving you his time and his knowledge. This guy really wants us to achieve our goals and it was really amazing to see, and I’m forever grateful about it.”
Muhammad’s performance against Brady was amazing and the fighter gave it all in that fight. Currently, he is on an impressive eight-win fight streak and will most probably get a title shot soon.
