Winn came out with a fun explainer about what went wrong in his UFC Austin fight
Deron Winn may have come up short at UFC Austin against Phil Hawes but what he lacked in octagon skills that night he surely made up for with his charisma and self-awareness outside the octagon.
Winn was scheduled to face off against fellow middleweight prospect Phil Hawes in the prelims for UFC Austin. During the fight Winn’s shorter reach would end up being his bane as the fighter would find it to be immensely difficult to enter the pocket and land meaningful exchanges.
He was TKO’ed in the second round by Hawes in the fight after which a brief altercation took place between Hawes and Daniel Cormier. Cormier who hails from the same gym as Deron Winn i.e. AKA was accused by Hawes of picking favorable opponents for his ward. DC would go on to clarify that he has no say over the matter and if he did, Hawes wouldn’t have been a preferential opponent considering the outcome for the fight. “You didn’t beat me” exclaimed DC before asking Hawes to be respectful bringing the argument to a close.

On Instagram, the fighter posted a detailed breakdown of his perspective of the fight complete with hilarious one-liners aimed at his futile attempts to regain the upper hand.
In the video Deron Winn would reveal that he suffered a broken orbital bone in the opening 20 seconds of the fight courtesy of an elbow by Hawes. Winn then described how a few drunk dudes in the stand cheering him on inspired him to get back up to his feet. He would then also go on to say that he had no idea what was going on by the halfway point of the second round.
Winn would ask Herb Dean, “What took your a** so long? “ when he finally stepped in to stop the fight. Winn expressed the fight to be an affair where he felt he was elbowed a million times. Thanking the fans for all the support he asked if they would like more such breakdowns from the fighter. Winn is currently 2-3 in the UFC.
