Chimaev was heckled by a fan in a hotel lobby
Khamzat Chimaev is an individual that one could assume is lethal based on their looks alone. To be very fair at 6’3 with a scarred lip, you really don’t leave much room for imagination. Still, that won’t stop some fans from crossing the line and confronting him to his face.
This past week was supposed to be the coronation of Khamzat Chimaev as he was on track to secure an easy win over a big name like Nate Diaz. This was also supposed to be his first-ever Pay per view headliner. However, fate and his doctors had other plans. In the early hours of weigh-in day, Chimaev was informed that further cutting weight could have drastic side effects on his health.
Hence Chimaev stopped at the weight he was and began the process of rehydration, ultimately stepping in the scales with an excess 8lbs of weight. This led to the card being reshuffled at the last minute and Khamzat Chimaev being knocked off from the main event to a co-main sport alongside Kevin Holland. Needless to say, it didn’t earn him any favors with the fervent Diaz crowd.
The fight was an absolute mismatch, Khamzat wasting no time in working towards the finish. He mauled Holland from corner to corner and got the submission in the very first round. With his dominant performance, Chimaev surely earned back a few fans he lost, but he stated he doesn’t care about the rest either way.
Khamzat Chimaev is unfazed by heckling fan
At the post-fight press conference, Chimaev revealed that he doesn’t feel either way about the fans turning in him as he described them as “fickle” Chimaev also said that at the end of the day it’s only his team and family that matter to him and whatever leads them to live a comfortable life is what he’ll do.
This may be the reason why Chimaev was so unfazed when confronted by a fan about his weight miss. While it takes serious courage and sheer stupidity to tell off a professional fighter, the behavior was uncalled for regardless. In a video shared on social media, we can see exactly how the series of events transpired.
Chimaev can be seen walking across a hotel in Vegas, surrounded by his team when a fan walks up ahead of them with his front camera on. Once Chimaev waves to the camera, the fan immediately starts yelling, “You didn’t make weight” at this Chimaev was unfazed and kept walking his way. Meanwhile, one of his coaches walked over to the fan and flicked off his cell phone from his hands.
