Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou in an MMA fight remains unlikely to materialize any soon. But it still yet remains the current top entrant in dream MMA matches that never happened. Even top honcho, Dana White sounded off on Jones’ G.O.A.T status. The most recent one being in a podcast with former Super Bowl MVP, Julian Edelman. Even away from active status, Jones remains the match to make. Meanwhile Ex-UFC Heavyweight and new boxing phenom Ngannou doesn’t earn his moniker of ‘Predator‘ lightly.
One would expect a face-off between them to be of epic and fiery proportions. It was anything but. The duo has sized each other up cage-side at 2023 PFL 5, at Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta. But unlike their July face-to-face, this one sees Ngannou and Jones greet each other. Later, Ngannou startles the inactive fighter with a one-liner, saying:
You need to go back to training!

This scene unfolded Saturday at the PFL vs. Bellator: Champions event in Saudi Arabia. The PFL vs. Bellator: Champions affair promised a must-see PPV card. The winner of Renan Ferreira vs. Ryan Bader potentially facing Francis Ngannou was on the line. That, along with a potent $2 million minimum payday against the new PFL signing held much gravitas. Hence, the MMA giants were in attendance.
Despite color commentator, Joe Rogan deliberating Jon Jones in the medieval period as a conqueror, things were dire. His recent appearance at the Bangtao Muay Thai and MMA gym had fans in shamble on his latest look. But nobody would have dreamt of Ngannou as the instigator of such a tease, which he has done for a second time now.

But that’s not how it quite went. Ngannou poked fun at Jones, advising him to go back to training. Jones has been out of commission, due to a ruptured pectoral tendon.
During a cage-side interview that transpired, Jones predicted that he’d beat Ngannou in an MMA fight after overcoming Stipe Miocic and Tom Aspinall. Here’s how the French-Cameroonian fired back –
In your dreams. You are f****** fat.Francis Ngannou to Jon Jones at PFL vs. Bellator
Jones admitted rooting for the fighter in his second pro boxing outing. While they have had two such encounters now, no match is to materialize for the foreseeable future. Ngannou calling him out of shape has prompted both men to laugh on both counts. However, there lies an undertone of animosity and tension between the two. Only time will tell if that ever transitions to a fighting cage.
