WATCH: Miesha Tate shows off training video ahead of debut flyweight fight at UFC 276
Miesha Tate is ready to make her debut as a flyweight
Former bantamweight UFC champion Miesha Tate is all set for her debut as a flyweight for the upcoming pay-per-view event at UFC 276.
For all the MMA fans that are used to watching “The cupcake” fight at 135, it will be a shock to see how well Miesha Tate works as a flyweight fighter. After an amazing career in the bantamweight division, Tate has decided to step down a weight division and fight at 125 pounds. In her recent social media posts, Tate has given a sneak peek of how her shape is ahead of the huge bout.
For her flyweight debut, Miesha will take on top contender Lauren Murphy at UFC 276 which takes place on the 3rd of July. The fight is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada and Miesha Tate and Lauren Murphy will fight each other in a three-round bout on the main card. In a recent tweet, Tate showed off her clips from her training camp ahead of her huge fight.
“Fast and fluid” Miesha Tate expresses how she feels as a flyweight
“It’s all coming together right on time! Feeling strong, fast and fluid! Can’t wait for July2!” wrote Tate as she showboats her skills on the feet and on the ground as well. Tate’s opponent at UFC 276, Lauren Murphy is coming off a title fight against the ever-dominant Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 266, last year. Lauren is currently 15-5 in her professional career and is a very technical fighter.
Tate’s move to the flyweight division stems from her defeat to Ketlen Vieira at UFC Vegas 43 when she lost via decision in the five-round main event fight. Miesha took a beating against the Brazilian. That was only her second fight following her 5-year hiatus. Tate returned to the octagon with a win against Marion Reneau and is now looking to jump back into the win column against Lauren.
The women’s bantamweight division is a stacked weightclass with a lot of great fighters. Miesha’s decision to move down a weight class could play to her advantage as a win over Lauren could most probably see her fighting the champion in her next fight. Do you think Tate’s move to the 125-pound division was a good decision?
