WATCH: Petr Yan sends a terrifying message to Sean O’Malley in ENGLISH ahead of their UFC 280 fight
Yan and O'Malley will be the final non-championship bout of the night at UFC 280
Petr Yan is one terrifying individual, and he wants Sean O’Malley to know that. He wanted no translation barriers between the two and hence had a message for O’Malley, one that was delivered in English, a rare occurrence for the former champion.
Yan, has been looking for a fight in order to bounce back from his previous defeat to Aljamian Sterling in their rematch at UFC 273. To this effect, the UFC paired him up against a flashy striker and the latest entry into the bantamweight top-15, O’Malley.
Yan has rarely been known to speak English, choosing instead to converse in his native Russian. This adds to the stoic image that he’s managed to create as there is something inherently serious about anything said in Russian. However, in his latest message to O’Malley, he didn’t want any confusion and addressed him directly in English.
In the latest episode of embedded, Yan described his preparation, saying, “Camp was good, work hard, prepared, did everything what I did, every fight, it’s the same, conditioning war, striking war, wrestling war, I wanna win my next fight and fight for title fight. “
He then expanded on his legacy in Abu Dhabi, a place he won two championships saying, “For me Abu Dhabi, Emirates, it’s the best place, it’s my history, 2 times I won the belt. First fight was with Jose Aldo, second fight was with Cory Sandhagen, now I wanna smash my next opponent.”
Then addressing O’Malley directly he said, “O’Malley will talk before [the] fight, I will talk with my fists” , as he concluded his message to his upcoming opponent.
Is this the only time Petr Yan has spoken in English?
While a rarity, this is not the first time Yan has spoken in English in public. The most notable example of this was after UFC 245, when he called out Henry Cejudo for a title shot. Calling him, “Triple Clown” he repeatedly asked, “Where you? “
He also spoke in English after his rematch against Aljamain Sterling, as he campaigned for a trilogy and put forth his belief that he won the first two and last two rounds at UFC 273.
