“I will wake you up, don’t be afraid,” Sean O’Malley talks chatting trash with Petr Yan on Instagram ahead of UFC 280

A win against Yan might give O'Malley the next title shot. Only the fight night of UFC 280 will tell just how good O'Malley, hopefully for his fans, should be enough to shut the doubters.

Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan might add themselves to this new set of weird MMA duets who like to get under each other’s skin notoriously with a rather surprisingly, friendly back and forth. O’Malley and Yan are going to fight each other at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi next month. This is the biggest opportunity in O’Malley’s MMA career. Both are known for their fight IQ on their feet.

O’Malley is one of the most popular names in the UFC today, he has wins over the likes of Thomas Almeida, Raulian Paiva, Eddie Wineland and many more. He is 15-1 with a no-contest in his overall MMA career with 11 knockout wins. In a recent episode of Bromalley featuring O’Malley himself along with his brother, he talks about a chat exchange on Instagram with Yan.

“Petr Yan, he messaged me,” says O’Malley. “So I posted the countdown that I post every once in a while, 24 days, and he said ‘you’re sleeping Suga, I will wake you up,’ I said ‘how are those ladyboys over there in Thailand,’ he said ‘they are most suitable for your image buddy,’ I said ‘I talked to Dana, he said we can weigh at 145,’ he said ‘don’t be afraid, most importantly, be there…'” narrated O’Malley.

O’Malley is going to fight the first former world champion in his career in Yan, who has wins over the likes of Jose Aldo, Urijah Faber, Cory Sandhagen, Jimmie Rivera, John Dodson and many more. He is still the #1 ranked bantamweight and considering O’Malley is #12, we might either realise why do rankings exist or we might see the complete dismissal of their relevance.

O’Malley is fighting in perhaps the biggest fight card of this year, with the card being headlined by a lightweight title fight between former champion Charles Oliveira and longtime title prospect and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s mentee Islam Makhachev. In the co-main event, Yan’s last opponent and current undisputed UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will defend his title against TJ Dillashaw. Other fights to look out for are Mateusz Gamrot vs Beneil Dariush, Belal Muhammad vs Sean Brady and many more.
