Israel Adesanya vs Alex Pereira at UFC 281
UFC 281 turned out to be a massive pay-per-view event and the fans got an action-packed night. From bloody wars to shocking title winners it had it all. The main event featured the much-awaited middleweight championship fight between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira. The fight was illustrious and Alex Pereira finally dethroned Adesanya after three long years.
Izzy fought extremely well and from round one showed why he’s the champion. He won three of the first four rounds. Going into the fifth and final round, the Brazilian had to finish Adesanya in order to win the fight. A nasty left hook followed by a series of strikes from Pereira forced the referee to stop the fight.
The crowd went crazy and the scenes at the octagon side were captured in a video. The fighters who came to support Izzy were stunned and their confusion was evident.
Kevin Holland was present in the crowd and just stood there without any reaction as if he was trying o process what just happened. UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards who himself was a part of a similar situation at UFC 278, was caught grabbing his head in disbelief. Brandon Moreno and Aljamain Sterling both were standing beside each other and were stunned at that moment.
Izzy’s closest friends, Kamaru Usman and Francis Ngannou who came in to support Adesanya couldn’t even stand after the fight was over. Justin Gaethje looked stunned too, however, Li Zhinglag was smiling and this time got the opportunity to flex his new suit again.
From Kamaru Usman to Israel Adesanya: The fall of ‘Three Kings’
A few months ago, Israel Adesanya, Kamaru Usman, and Francis Ngannou all held the championship title in their respective divisions. However, currently, Ngannou is the only one left from the pack.
The fighters who share the same ethnic values were extremely honored for representing African nations in the UFC. The ‘Three Kings’ is what they call themselves and their brotherhood is extremely natural. Before the fight, all of them also posted for the camera and paid tribute to the upcoming Marvel movie, ‘Wakanda Forever‘.
Unfortunately, the night didn’t end the way they expected it to. Ngannou was really disappointed with the results and took to Twitter to share his opinion, “What a sad night ?.”
At one time, three of them were looking unbeaten but things have changed in recent times. It just shows how amazing and unpredictable the sport is.
