With a victory over Ortega, Rodriguez received a shot at the featherweight championship. However, the current champion, Alexander Volkanovski, has already made his desire to switch to lightweight. This will make Rodriguez eligible for a rematch, however, the likelihood of that fight will also depend on how badly Ortega is hurt.

Yair Rodriguez showed interest in a rematch with Brian Ortega, according to Brian Ortega in a post-fight interview with UFC on ABC.

He said,”(Yair Rodriguez) said he’s willing to run it back. I definitely want to get it back. I’m gonna go MRI this [injury] as soon as I can. Do what I have to do. I pray to God I don’t have to get surgery… The second I’m physically able to do it, I wanna get back in”

Brian Ortega is still recovering from his injury and hopefully gets his rematch when he returns. Although his chances will depend upon the title picture taking shape when he makes his comeback to the Octagon.
