Colby Covington fought for the welterweight title against Leon Edwards at UFC 296. Numerous controversies followed him for receiving a title shot and the stuff he said about Edwards’ dad. The major one was due to his long hiatus from the sport. As such, he held his top-five ranking for over a year without even competing. Now, after his sloppy performance against Edwards, UFC welterweight Geoff Neal let out his frustration about Covington.

In a recent interview with ‘Fanatics View,’ Geoff Neal claimed Colby Covington was just holding up the division’s rankings. As such, he wanted him to defend his spot with an up-incomer. If not, he advised the UFC to release him. On that note, he touched upon the rumored fight between ‘Chaos’ and Shavkat Rakhmonov. Here is what he said:

I don't know if that's (Colby Covington vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov) gonna play out. But, he needs to fight an up-incomer. If he doesn't take that fight, then get him out of the fu****g UFC. He's holding up all the fu****g, he's like bottlenecking the top of the division.

Colby Covington’s path to the welterweight title became a hugely talked about topic among the MMA critics. Many, including the champion Leon Edwards, stated ‘Chaos’ only fought the veterans of the sport and not any young prospects. Geoff Neal’s argument remains the same. Excluding Covington’s undisputed title fights, he had only fought Jorge Masvidal, Tyron Woodley, and Robbie Lawler in the past five years. All three are currently retired from the sport.

Geoff Neal will face Ian Garry at UFC 298 this month. As such, he looked forward to winning the fight. With the previous history between Neal and Garry, fans had high expectations of this fight. As for Covington, he called out Stephen Thompson after his title fight in UFC 296. However, Neal wanted him to face a younger fighter in his next fight and prove his worth as a top-five welterweight.

Geoff Neal predicts his fight with Ian Garry

Geoff Neal and Ian Garry were earlier booked to fight last year, but Neal pulled out of the fight, citing medical reasons. Now, they get into action in UFC 298. As such, Geoff Neal previewed the fight and gave his predictions.

In his recent interview, Geoff Neal predicted a second-round/third-round finish for him against Ian Garry. Here is what he said:

I'm not going to engage in too much trash talk. I've never been that type of person. But, its entertaining, him talking sh**. But, the fans got my back on this one. I don't gotta say sh** anymore. I'm gonna take him out in the second round. Second round, maybe early third round.

Geoff Neal previously fought Shavkat Rakhmonov in UFC 285. He lost the fight via submission in the third round. On the flip side, Ian Garry remained undefeated, with his last win against Neil Magny at UFC 292. Then, he was supposed to face Vicente Luque at UFC 296, but ‘The Future’ was pulled out due to illness. Now, Neal vs. Garry goes down at UFC 298 in Anaheim, California.
