Khamzat Chimaev and Darren Till form the fan-loved duo called the “Smesh Bros”. Read on further in this article to understand why your social media feed isn’t filled with them anymore.

The middle of last year would have given Darren Till fans some hope about their favourite fighter’s long-anticipated return to the octagon after having last fought and lost to Robert Whittaker in 2020. Hence, when it was announced by the UFC that Till would face Derek Brunson in September, the news was welcomed with much fervour. That being said, the excitement was short-lived for fans – despite having rocked Brunson multiple times, when taken down to the ground, “The Gorilla” looked absolutely lost, and was haplessly submitted by the skilled Brunson.

The situation looked quite bleak for Till, whose sublime striking had been completely inundated by superior wrestlers all throughout his UFC career. When pitted against a pure striker like Stephen Thompson, his striking came in clutch. That being said, MMA social media, in march this year, suddenly became rife with pictures and videos of Darren Till with Khamzat Chimaev training together.

In quick succession, the duo took over the internet with all sorts of grabby one-liners – most famous of all being the one where Chimaev calls Till a ‘fat boy’ in training. The two looked inseparable – but more importantly, it seemed like Till had found his mojo, and that now he could develop his ground game with a superb wrestler. Additionally, it looked likely that the hole in Till’s game could finally be bridged, alongside the mental aspect of the sport – that is, unless a fighter is keeping their spirits up and the hunger exists to win accolades, it is hard to actualize any potential inside the octagon.

The duo’s fondness for each other kept growing till Chimaev rewarded Till with the privilege any fighter would be proud of – that is, the Englishman was chosen as a cornerman for the Swede in his first fight for 2022, which was against Gilbert Burns. The same continued in Chimaev’s fight against Kevin Holland, late in September. When all hell broke loose before UFC 279’s main event, Darren Till also stood his ground to protect his new ally.

What is the reason behind Khamzat Chimaev and Darren Till not being spotted together anymore?

After September, however, the two were hardly seen together. There could be a plethora of reasons for this – the most obvious one is the fans looking too deep into the matter, without there being anything to peruse.

In July this year, pictures started circulating the internet of the Norwegian-Swede UFC fighter Jack Hermansson training with Khamzat Chimaev. There is nothing too click-worthy about this piece of information, aside from the fact that Hermansson was supposed to take on Till in July this year before the Englishman pulled out with an injury. This made the fans suspicious; however, there doesn’t seem to be any evidence to prove that there has been a falling out over this matter between the ”Smesh Bros.”

What is the most obvious reason for them not being spotted together is the fact that after Chimaev’s win over Kevin Holland a couple of months back, it only made sense for the Swede to take some time off, rest up and enjoy his time. And, Darren Till had been booked to fight Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 282 – as such, the latter flew to train in Thailand, at Tiger Muay Thai, where he has been for a while. This could be the reason for their time away from each other and also our screens.

Winning his next fight is imperative for Darren Till – after his title loss to Tyron Woodley in 2018, the Englishman is staring at the precipice at this juncture of his UFC career; that is, he is 1-4 since that loss. It is extremely vital that he beats Du Plessis, or else he could be staring at possibly becoming a gatekeeper for the middleweight top 10.
