“Thank you and thank me” – When Conor McGregor went on a HILARIOUSLY UNHINGED rant while accepting an award
Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor is the biggest name in MMA right now, and has been, for the best part of the modern era. He isn’t just a big name within MMA – his star has eclipsed the realm of fighting and made its way to the bigger leagues, alongside names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
In 2017, ESPN named McGregor among the top 15 of the world’s most popular athletes in 2017, after the stunning event put on by him and Floyd Mayweather, which ran out at the end of the night as the second best-selling PPV of all time. In 2021, he made big airwaves again, as he was named by Forbes as the athlete with the largest revenue that year – earning an estimated $190 million!
No wonder then, he has been decorated with the highest accolades across his career. In 2016, he was awarded the Fighter of the Year award at The Eighth Annual Fighters Only World MMA Awards. However, it was not the award itself, but the speech he gave for it that stole all the headlines. Accepting the award virtually, he said, “I apologize for not being there, there’s another man that must be slayed, another champion that must be dethroned.”
He continued, “There are more numbers that need to be broken. I need to feed all you bums, I have got to feed every single one of yous, so I must keep working, because yous bums don’t work. You got the heavyweight champion, he’s a pussy… how’s the heavyweight champion going to pull out with a sore throat, what kind of champion is that? The game is on its knees… so thank you and thank me.”

The awards and achievements have started to dry up for Conor McGregor
Back when he accepted the award, he was the featherweight and the lightweight champion of the UFC. having beaten Jose Aldo and Eddie Alvarez, for the respective belts. That came with a proud head on his shoulders. However, as is evident from this video – McGregor always packed a mean hilarious punch within him.
However, that being said, it’s been six years since McGregor won a title fight – his last win coming against Eddie Alvarez. Setting off a dramatic downturn of form, the Irishman embarked on the massive crossover fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2017, after he had defeated Nate Diaz in their 2016 rematch.
The awards (not counting the Forbes one in 2021) have now sort of dried up for McGregor, who has since, gone 1-4 in the UFC. That is, after the Mayweather fight, he has lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier (twice), while the solitary win came against a waning Donald Cerrone.
Conor McGregor is aiming to make one hell of a comeback after he broke his leg against Dustin Poirier. Once again, there is one more hurdle for the Irishman to cross first – he must enter the USADA’s testing pool six months before any proposed fight. If that is the case, we might not see McGregor till the middle of 2023, owing to his absence from the governing body’s testing pool.
