When Daniel Cormier punched referee Herb Dean during fight against Jon Jones

Jon Jones (L) escapes, Daniel Comier's (R) punch while Herb Dean (M) gets hit
Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier is one of the most heated rivalries in the history of the promotion. Not only did the violence between the two spill outside the cage, even referee Herb Dean once caught a punch trying to separate the two.
The first time the two fighters took on each other was at UFC 182 in 2015. The two fighters absolutely hated each other in the lead-up to the fight in the octagon and were ready to leave it all inside the cage. The two went to war for five rounds and left the result in the hands of the judges. The hate for each other was so much that, the two couldn’t keep their hands off each other even after the final bell.
Jones, who believed won the fight comfortably after the bell, put his hands up as DC continued to hold him. However, a triggered “Bones” went on to throw strikes toward his nemesis which then called for the referee Herb Dean to swoop in and stop the two from causing havoc. In this attempt, the poor referee caught a punch from DC who retaliated against his rival’s strikes.
Jon Jones continued his taunt as he pulled off the “cross-chop” gesture toward DC after being separated. Jon Jones went on to win the fight via unanimous decision which was then overturned as he tested positive for steroids. DC to this day does not forgive Jones for being under the influence of a banned substance.

Daniel Cormier reveals why he won’t forgive Jon Jones

Jones clearly got the better of DC inside the octagon and there is no denying that. However, many put an asterisk on the former UFC light heavyweight champ’s wins over DC, given his positive steroid tests during their rivalry. Cormier too, despite all the years that passed, is not over his beef with Jones.

In an episode of the PIVOT podcast, Daniel Cormier explained to the hosts of the show why he won’t forgive the former champ. “It’s easy for him to say water under the bridge, but for me, it’s like man, you did some stuff to my career that never let me settle. Because now I don’t know,” said Cormier on his beef.
Cormier to date wonders if Jon Jones would’ve beaten him twice if he never took steroids. It also puzzles DC as to why the former champ had to take illegal substances when he already was a phenom inside the octagon.
