Former UFC champion Conor McGregor is ready to make his acting debut with Jake Gyllenhaal. McGregor will feature in Amazon Prime’s remake of the 1989 action film Road House.
The movie is set to release in 2023 around the same time Conor McGregor makes his UFC comeback. The story follows Jake Gyllenhaal who takes a job as a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys but soon discovers the secrets behind the place. Conor McGregor will reportedly play the character of Jimmy Reno, originally played by Marshall Teague in the 80s action film.
The addition of the UFC star will give an international boost to the film, which already boasts a solid cast and adapts a well-known movie premise. The film will premiere in more than 240 countries and territories around the world. McGregor has always been reluctant to join just any film that has been recommended to him. The UFC star reportedly saw the 1980s original when the offer was brought to his attention, and since he liked both the film and the detour the remake takes, he gave it the green light.
A scene in the movie was actually shot at the UFC 285 event between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane. Jake Gyllenhaal shoots a weigh-in and later the audience gets a glimpse of the movie as the actors partake in a choreographed fight in the octagon.
Conor McGregor’s Netflix Documentary
Road House isn’t the only piece of production McGregor is involved in 2023. The UFC star recently announced his upcoming documentary on Instagram. Fans are exhilarated to see Mcgregor’s story on screen.
The documentary also covers the aftermath of the broken leg injury McGregor sustained at UFC 264. McGregor had taken time out of fighting to recover from the injury. He feared it was the end of his career in the UFC. “I thought it was over as well, that is why I flipped into a different mode,” McGregor says. “Jesus, imagine it was just taken from me like that. I would be a different person and it was a bit scary, to be honest.“
McGregor’s documentary has been in the works for around 5 years now and the film crew has been following McGregor since 2018. The documentary is in its final stage of production and will be released on Netflix on May 17, 2023.
