Joaquin Buckley is one of the most entertaining and thrilling fighters on the current UFC roster. The 28-year-old joined UFC in 2020 and immediately gathered a lot of attention including hip hop superstar, Kanye West.

It happened during his second UFC fight against Impa Kasanganay at UFC Fight Island 5. After an unfortunate loss against Kevin Holland in his debut fight, Buckley was on a mission to redeem himself. After an engaging first round, in the second round, Buckley went for a body kick and Kasanganay caught his leg.

While most fighters in this situation would have tried to free their legs, however, Buckley had different plans. The fighter took this chance and delivered a creative kick to Kasanganay’s face. It was enough to put Kasanganay to sleep, giving an incredible fighting sequence for the fans. 

The fight gave Buckley his first-ever UFC win along with his first ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus award. The knockout got viral and got an amazing response in the MMA world. It got so popular that Kanye West used that clip in one of his music videos.

West being one of the most polarizing figures in the world, this brought a lot of attention to Buckley’s stunning KO. West tweeted the clip on his official account however, it is not possible to see it now. West’s Twitter account is currently suspended after the artists’ recent anti-semitic comments.

After that vicious knockout, Joaquin Buckley changed forever and the fighter got heights of recognition. After getting featured in Kanye West’s music video, Buckley thanked the hip-hop artist for such a generous action.

He said: “I’m appreciative of Kanye West for throwing that out there. He’s a legend in the hip-hop community and for him to be inspired by my kick and come out with a classy hit like that is pretty cool. I’m grateful.”

The fighter also revealed that the knockout helped him get the extra $50,000 and the much-needed exposure for as a young fighter. “An extra $50,000 was awesome but the exposure is worth so much more right now. Having that kind of exposure is a big deal. It allows me to get more fights as people are coming after me, trying to get that name,” said Buckley. 

Since that fight, Buckley has fought on six multiple occasions and has won four of them. His raw power and knockout prowess make him a potential candidate for the UFC title in the future.
