It seems like something is amiss when we don’t get to hear Joe Rogan commentate UFC fights, guiding fans play-by-play through the exchanges between the fighters. We anyway get to see less of Rogan now, than we did before because his contract is limited to PPV events held in the US.
A video has been released by the UFC that has put MMA fans in their feels. We must warn you, this is a nostalgic one! The video recaps Joe Rogan’s first outing as a UFC commentator, back in 2002. To be precise, the American worked for the UFC earlier – however, his role was limited to backroom interviews of the fighters.
In the video, Joe Rogan can be seen saying, “I’m a huge fan of ultimate fighting, all martial arts, I literally don’t care about other sports… If they made basketball illegal, it wouldn’t even bother me.” Choice words from Rogan, who was joined by another iconic MMA commentator, Mike Goldberg.
The video then panned to him sitting in the commentary booth, where he said, “This is a very, very exciting fight. This to me is like Christmas, my birthday, Happy New Year, April Fool’s, whatever.”

Joe Rogan made his debut for the promotion as a commentator back in 2002. Hence, it has been more than 20 years that he has been at his job, getting more adoration from the fans as each year passes.
However, as is with everything in life, fight fans must accept the fact that at some point, Joe Rogan will have to retire, and leave the promotion, finally. According to Rogan, himself, he sees himself leaving the promotion on one condition. That condition is that when Dana White leaves is when Rogan himself will say his goodbyes to the promotion. This was revealed by Rogan to guest Jon Peters, on the Joe Rogan Experience.

While this may be a hard pill to swallow for MMA fans, rest assured, the UFC commentary team will rest in the safe hands of seasoned veteran Jon Anik and relatively newer additions like Daniel Cormier, Paul Felder, Michael Bisping and Dominick Cruz.
