Terence Crawford is undoubtedly one of the most decorated lightweight boxers of all time. The fighter started his boxing career back in 2008 and is still undefeated after 39 professional wins. Back in his young days, Crawford was a rising star and one of his interviews got extremely popular. It was an interview, in which the reporter asked a bunch of weird questions about the fighter.
The reporter explained to Terence Crawford that he was 50 pounds heavier than the boxer and it will definitely give him an advantage if they ever fight. Crawford was quick to reply and mentioned that all that extra weight will probably just help the fighter to have a safe landing after getting knocked out.
“It’s just cushion your fall. You know what they say, the fatter they are the harder they fall,” said Crawford. The reporter then asked the boxer how he would prepare himself to fight someone like him on short notice.
Crawford said, “I’d just warm up on the speed bag, pretend that it’s your face.” It’s hard to tell if the reporter was just joking or was serious but going against a professional fighter despite having a weight advantage is not a good idea.
Terence Crawford only wanted to impress her mother since he was a young boxer
Crawford gives a lot of credit for his success to his mother who raised her without a father. As a kid, Terence Crawford used to get involved in a lot of street fights and her mother had to beat him to put some sense into him.
However, his mother was extremely strict about him never losing any fight. Terence’s mother wanted him to be a real man who can take care of his own things. Throughout his young professional career, Crawford just wanted to make his mother proud.
“When she’s always telling you. You gonna lose or you are not good enough or you’re gonna get your a** kicked or things like that. It’s like okay when I win this tournament she’s gonna say congratulations or a good job or I’m proud of you but it never happened,” said Crawford.
This habit kept the fire burning inside the fighter who finally utilized it on the biggest stage and won several championship belts. Crawford believes that without his mother he wouldn’t have been anywhere as successful as he is now.
