Conor McGregor- Khabib Nurmagomedov

Conor McGregor can’t get over many things, his love for fighting and hate for Khabib Nurmagomedov included. McGregor and Khabib came together in fight history to formulate what can be called one of the greatest rivalries in all of combat sports history. Together, when they fought at UFC 229, generated one of the most watched UFC PPVs of all time. Khabib won that fight against McGregor via fourth-round submission.

Since then, Khabib has been inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame after retiring from the sport of MMA as the UFC lightweight champion with an undefeated record of 29-0. He is now the President of Eagle FC MMA, a Russian promotion that he brought in November of 2020. Whereas McGregor has secured only one win in 2020 before and after which he didn’t win a fight. Just recently McGregor has recovered from a brutal shin fracture caused in his last fight and has continued his MMA training, therefore indicating a return to his fans.

A tweet by media outlet Spinning Backfist reported that rapper Drake has bet $238,000 for former WEC-UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo to win against UFC bantamweight Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278. McGregor quoted the tweet saying “Aldo is such an incredible fighter! A real all timer! How’s that other fat smell bag doing? How is it that he never lost but he is still a loser hahaha smelly shit pant rat. Let’s go Aldo! A great fight with the little rocket level changer in Mirab. Can’t wait, I love fighting.”

Aside from insulting Khabib by calling him a “fat smell bag” and a “loser that never lost,” let’s talk about McGregor’s relationship with Aldo. McGregor entered the UFC as a featherweight with an intention to dethrone Aldo from his title reign, which McGregor did at UFC 194 with a spectacular opening round, 13-second KO. But McGregor was the first person who was using psychological warfare upon Aldo during the build-up of the fight through vicious trash talking, over the years, both have moved on and eventually attained a certain level of respect for each other.

What do you make of seeing McGregor showing polar opposite attitudes within the same tweet, assigned for different people with different relationships? Do you think the bad blood between McGregor and Khabib will ever come to a resolution between the two? Do you think Khabib will ever come out of retirement to fight McGregor? Also, where do you put Aldo amongst the greatest Brazilian fighters of all time?
