Who did it better?: Alex Pereira releases a hilarious video mocking Israel Adesanya’s tennis ball workout
Pereira mocked Adesanya's unusual training methods
Alex Pereira has a very serious dispute with Israel Adesanya because he just can’t seem to leave the Kiwi alone. Not satisfied with having beat Adesanya twice in kickboxing, Pereira jumped ship and joined the world of MMA to follow Adesanya and is now on track to challenge him for a title in less than a month. Seems like that to wasn’t enough and now the Brazillian is mocking the middleweight champion on social media as well.
A few weeks ago, Adesanya released a unique training video where he could be seen working on his reflexes, by evading and deflecting tennis balls. A standard workout, this was reposted across social media by outlets like Sportscenter and barstool sports. However, Pereira was not impressed back then. In response, he released a video where he could be seen sparring, while on a hoverboard, claiming Adesanya’s method of training was too easy.
Now a few weeks after the fact, Pereira is at it again, and looks like he finally found the benefits of Adesanya’s training as he emulated it. Only this time, it was a pure parody of the very serious workout that Adesanya was seen doing. In the video, Pereira can be seen pretending to move away from the incoming tennis balls. However, his coach is not aiming them anywhere near him.
As the video progresses, the intensity of the ridiculousness increases tenfold as his coaches start throwing multiple projectiles his way all at once. Later the former GLORY light heavyweight champion also got to display his football skills, deflecting the ball with his feet.
How do Israel Adesanya’s and Alex Pereira’s MMA Careers Compare?
Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira are set to clash at UFC 281, in November at the iconic Madison Square Garden. The two foes have met twice in the past, with Pereira emerging victorious in both instances. However, they have been in the kickboxing ring.
Many critics acknowledge that the added factor of a takedown and the reduced glove padding is certainly something that will influence how the fight plays out. While Adesanya has got a ton of experience in the latter, thanks to him having fought a who’s who of elite middleweight grapplers during his rise up the rankings, Pereira has never had to do so.
After beating Sean Strickland at UFC 276, via first-round KO, he was chosen as the next in line for Adesnya’s title. While grappling won’t be much of an issue against Adesanya, if Pereira is to have a sustained career in the UFC, he would need a lot of improvement in that department. Thankfully he is training under an all-time great in Glover Teixeira who can certainly guide him the right way
